Jobs Open

Advertising on Jobs-Open

There are two types of advertisements on this site.

1. Individual jobs

Once there was a wildly exciting hope of letting employers and recruiters post their available jobs directly on this site without charge, but that dream evaporated in the harsh light of reality. It just takes too much administration time.

The only way to see your job on this site is to post it with HRSDC. To do this go to http://employers.jobbank.gc.ca/common-commun/Login-Connexion.asp. The government can afford the cost. They have lots of your money to spend. Within an hour or two of your vacancy being on the HRDC servers, it will be on this site. [Insert usual disclaimers here].

2. Google ads

Another scheme, born of wishful thinking and greed, was of charging general advertisers for showing their ads on this site. Again the time required eventually scuttled that idea. No sane advertiser would reimburse what I thouht my labour was worth. Presumably that idea went to Davy Jones’ locker.

Currently, Google handles all the advertising on this site. Generally an advertiser pays each time someone clicks on an ad and goes to the advertiser’s site. Prices are competitive and are set by the advertisers who bid on keywords. You can join AdWords, or just learn more by going to http://www.google.com/adwords

If you are particularly enamored by this site, and we hope you are, and really want to have your ad appear here, then Google has a concept which it calls placements. To learn more go to http://adwords.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=77872.

In the wonder working days of yore, Google used to pay a bounty for any new advertiser introduced to them. Regrettably, this excellent idea has gone the way of the dodo.

Interestingly, most of the ads on this site are from competing sites. It is indeed an interesting world.
